Established in 1997, Liquidweb is basically a managed dedicated host. Even though they offer VPS and shared hosting, they are best known for their dedicated servers. The USP of Liquidweb is their customer support, which they call “Heroic Support”. Heroic or otherwise, within their price range, there are very few hosts that give as much stress on customer support as Liquidweb.

thePlanet is the number one dedicated hosting provider in the world. They own and operate one of the largest data centers which is used by a number of shared hosting, collocation providers as well. Even the highly rated shared hosting provider Hostgator trust on thePlanet for their servers. They claim to manage over 48,500 servers, including that of corporate clients.

Godaddy, the largest domain name registrar on the web is the largest web host as well. Independent analysts put their market share as approx. 25 million web sites which is around 35% of US market. This could include parked domains as well, but in any case they are the largest host by a big margin.

As a company, Godaddy revolutionized the market by offering extremely competitive rates for domain registration and web hosting. Even today, their rates are much below the market average. Their strength is their volume and excellent infrastructure which helps them make sense of the low prices.
